WHAT MATTERS TO DURHAM

I believe our City Council’s top three priorities should be housing, safety, and transit.

In order to address these priorities, the residents of Durham want diverse housing options that allow for stable, safe, and affordable shelter, robust economic development initiatives, an infrastructure that will support multimodal transit options and expanded connectivity, an environment that is built and sustained by us all, and effective strategies to address public safety and improve the overall quality of life for all residents of Durham.

OUR VISION

SAFETY WITH EMPATHY

We need a comprehensive safety approach that incorporates funding for HEART, entities actively combating and preventing crime, and holistic wraparound services and care.

AFFORDABLE LIVING

We need a versatile housing framework in Durham, promoting multi-use properties, uplifting conditions for public housing residents, and meeting affordable needs for all.

CONNECTIVITY

We need multimodal transit options and expanded connectivity within and beyond the city, coupled with improved infrastructure targeting essential repairs.

LAND USE

We need reimagined regulations and policies which can foster compact, cost-efficient development, mitigating excessive land waste and costs for residents. We need creative land and development policies that add capacity in Durham without displacement and harm.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

We need workforce development and programs catered to emerging jobs and trades that empower residents to continue living and working in Durham. We must ensure harmony in our growth and encourage partnership with businesses and institutions.

ENVIRONMENT

We need shifts in eco-friendlier transit and decisive actions in adopting renewable energy sources. We need targeted interventions and investments in our communities historically impacted by environmental harms.
